TOODIA

today i went on a college visit to Hastings College in Hastings NE. on the way, we went by this mile long strip of bunkers. it was crazy. rows and rows and rows of them!! it was on my mind all day long. the wondering of what it was from.......
So back to hastings. I like the campus, and the people seemed nice. The dorm rooms were fun, and the campus is small. i didnt get to eat cafeteria food, but thats ok i guess. i took pictures. a few.... the dorm rooms have lofts, like the real kind the are suspended in the air and have removable ladders to get to them. i did music auditions and sang "ah mio cor" and "you go to my head".
i never really fully comprehended what a liberal arts education meant before today. you take a whole bunch of other classes, other than the one you are majoring in, and bc of that, you get to sample other things, and you might like something better. i am slightly indecisive, and so i like that.... So i get to take photography and history and science, and maybe, who knows, i may turn out to be a history major, or a biologist! (i hope not)
at the end of the tour and such, i got a free tshirt. yay! now i have two. one from wesleyan and one from hastings. oh wait, i have one from william jewell as well. anywho, it is a faded, washed out red color. i like it.
on the way home, i made my mom stop at the bunkers, and we read the historical regitrar for it. quite an interesting place there.....clicker you here

How to die in 0.7 seconds

as said in a sheet i got in stop class. slightly graphic, so you may not want to read it....

Do you know what happens in the first fatal second after a car going 55 mph hits a solid object?

1. In the first 1/10th of the second, the front bumper and grille collapse.
2. The 2/10th finds the hood crumbling, rising and striking the windshield as the spinning rear wheels lift from the ground. Simultaneously, fenders begin wrapping themselves around the solid object and although the car's frame has been halted, the REST OF THE DRIVER'S CAR IS STILL GOING 55 MPH! Instinct causes the driver to stiffen his legs against the crash and they snap at the knee joint.
3. During the 3/10th of the second, the steering wheel starts to disintegrate and the steering column aims for the driver's chest.
4. The 4/10th of the second finds two feet of the car's front end wrecked while the rear end still moves at 35 mph and the driver's body is travelling at 55 mph.
5. In the 5/10th the driver is impaled on the steering column and blood rushes to his lungs.
6. The 6/10th finds the impact built up to the extent that the feet are ripped out of tightly laced shows. The brake pedal breaks off. The car frame bubkles in the middle adn the driver's head bangs into the windshield as the rear wheels, still spinning, fall back to the earth.
7. IiN THE 7/10th, hinges rip loose, doors open and the seat breaks free, striking the driver from behind. BUT HE DOESN'T MIND BECAUSE HE IS ALREADY DEAD, and the last three tenths of the second mean nothing to him.

NOW, WILL YOU BUCKLE YOUR SEAT BELT?

Skater

She was all in black but for a yellow pony tail
that trailed from her cap, and bright blue gloves
that she held out wide, the feathery fingers spread,
as surely she stepped, click-clack, onto the frozen
top of the world. And there, with a clatter of blades,
she began to braid a loose path that broadened
into a meadow of curls. Across the ice she swooped
and then turned back and, halfway, bent her legs
and leapt into the air the way a crane leaps, blue gloves
lifting her lightly, and turned a snappy half-turn
there in the wind before coming down, arms wide,
skating backward right out of that moment, smiling back
at the woman she'd been just an instant before.

NO MORE STOP CLASS!!!!!! ALL OVER!!!!

for those of you non-nebraskans, it is a class you take when you get a trafic violation or ticket. it costs $60 (less than half of my ticket price.....) and clears the ticket from your record if you pass the test at the end, which i did.

i learned a lot of interesting things at class. some are as follows

• .10 alcohol content is equal to 1 drop of alcohol in 100 drops of blood
• mouthwash has 12% alcohol content
• coffee doesn't sober up drunk people. it just gets you wide awake drunks
• sleepy people make more driving errors than drunk people
• aggressive driving can be doing things to annoy people you think are driving aggressively
• every 10 mph over the speed limit you go, you double your chance of an accident
• on a 100 mile trip, at 60mph it takes 1:40 hours
  65mph= 1:33
  70 mph= 1:25
  75mph = 1:20, therefore showing that speeding doesnt save you much time, maybe a few seconds, because how many of us take 1oomile trips every time we speed??
• some dude's excuse for why he was speeding was that he just got his car washed and was drying it off
• at least here, when you have a ticket, the court costs go to the county, and the fines go to the schools
• your stopping distance is the perception distance plus reaction distance plus braking distance
• the total average cost of a DWI first offense is $6, 711.50 plus jail and lose driver's license for 6 months. the fourth offence is $21, 811.50, 1-5 years in jail, and at least a 15 year suspension on your license...... dang!
• a 150 lb person over the age of 21 can have 2 drinks before they become impared, 2 drinks being a 12 oz beer, a 5oz wine, or 1 1/2 oz distilled spirits.
• however, if you are under 21, your blood alcohol level myst be under .02%, which one drink makes it go over, unless you weigh more than 180 lbs. the nebraska over 21 limit is .08%

anyway, so i learned some intersting stuff
